Corporate Policy on Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking.

Tennals Environmental is committed to maintaining and enforcing effective systems and controls to ensure compliance with the Modern Slavery Act 2015

We recognise modern slavery is a criminal activity and a violation of human rights. The deprivation of a person’s liberty by another in order to exploit them for personal or commercial gain is unacceptable. For these reasons, slavery and human trafficking is a matter of zero tolerance within the company and endorsed by this Policy.

It is our approach to comply with all laws and regulations relevant to our business in which we operate to and endeavour to ensure slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour is not taking place anywhere within our own business, our contractors we use and in any of our supply chains.

We undertake all reasonable and practical steps, including a vigorous contractor and supplier approval process to ensure our approach is reflected in that of the organisations that we are working with or associated with.

To ensure that our standards are being implemented throughout the businesses of our suppliers and that local legislation and regulations are complied with by using agile inspections and audit.

We operate a whistleblowing policy and system to allow concerns to be raised sensitively and we will assess any instances of non-compliance on a case-by-case basis and will take appropriate remedial action.

Environmental Policy 

  • Both companies affirm their commitment to global environmental protection and recognises the importance of incorporating environmental issues within their business decisions and activities.
  • The organisations acknowledge the potential for serious environmental impairment which could arise from their contractual operations if these were not carried out in an environmentally responsible and quality manner at all times. Tennals Environmental are committed to complying with the requirements of the UK Environmental Protection Act 1990/ROI Environmental Protection Agency Act 1992, and all legal duties and obligations imposed by other Environmental Acts and Regulations.
  • Tennal’s aim is to achieve this using five core guidelines which are:
  • Setting measurable environmental targets and objectives.
  • Implementing suitable control processes and procedures.
  • Actively researching new technology to aid its moral and legal environmental obligations.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the impact of Tennal’s activities regularly.
  • Working with our Interested Parties to ensure that any environmental impact is considered and mitigated.
  • Essentially the organisation will:
  • Operate and communicate the Environmental Management System, wherever practicable and ensure it meets with the requirements of relevant International Standards.
  • Wherever possible, work within the legislative constraints to which the company complies in order to protect the environment with regard to aspects of work that are environmentally significant.
  • Educate, train, engage and motivate its interested parties to work in a manner which maximises environmental protection and ensure the effective communication of the Tennal’s Environmental Policy, Objectives and Procedures.
  • The organisation will actively commit to the reduction and prevention of pollution or polluting agents.
  • Take action with regard to legitimate concerns of Employees, Clients, Regulators, Public, Insurers or other bodies with regard to improving the environmental performance of its business.
  • Work with our identified interested parties to reduce waste being sent to landfill by the effective use of the reduce, recycle and reuse processes where possible.
  • Where possible improve environmental efficiency and sustainability by the effective management of our buildings, equipment, consumables and vehicles.
  • Ensure that the organisation strives for continual improvement in its environmental performance and Environmental Management System.
  • Tennals Environmental are committed to working with our Interested Parties to ensure that we have a minimal impact on the environment by management initiatives and to actively encourage all aspects of the business to be environmentally conscious in our.
  • Recognising our environmental impact and monitoring our management systems will help drive policy changes and in the long term contribute towards more decarbonised energy systems, environmental and energy law, climate change and biodiversity and conservation and sustainable aquaculture.
  • The management are committed to regularly reviewing this Policy Statement in order to ensure its continuing suitability for our business needs, legislation and identified Interested Parties.

Health and Safety Policy 

In the conduct of its business, Tennals Environmental commits itself, so far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure that the Health and Safety and Wellbeing of all its employees and any other identified Interested Parties is our top priority.

This Policy Statement with the supporting processes is to show top management is committed to ensure that all relevant health and safety risks are identified, and suitable processes, controls and provisions are arranged. This is to, where practicable, eliminate and reduce any potential OH & S risks that are created as part of Tennal’s activities or business as usual operations.  Tennals Environmental recognises that not only do we have a legal duty under the UK Health & Safety at Work Act 1974/ROI Safety, Health & Welfare Act 2005 and associated legislation, but we also have a moral duty to ensure that the company’s activities do not increase the chance of any harm, ill health or damage to any employees, identified Interested Parties, equipment or buildings.

Tennals Environmental strongly believes that employees are the most valuable asset an organisation has and as such employees should be able to carry out their daily task with minimal risk to their own Health, Safety and Wellbeing in line with the Companies Visions and Values Ethos.

The Company operates an Integrated Management System that has gained the ISO 45001 certification within the UK.  In order for Tennals Environmental to meet or exceed its responsibilities the management are committed to:

  • Actively bringing this policy to the attention of its employees, clients and all other identified Interested Parties.
  • Ensure that during operations, the health and safety of employees, and Interested Parties are not compromised.
  • Ensure health and safety responsibilities are assigned and communicated to all relevant parties
  • Ensure that any accidents, incidents and close calls are investigated, and any actions implemented.
  • Ensure that the organisations fulfil their compliance to all applicable and relevant Statutory Legal Legislation, Approved Codes of Practice, Industry Best Practice, Railway Standards and any other Client specific requirements.
  • Ensure management is committed to a programme of continual improvement with regards the reduction of health and safety risks across its business using a range of SMART objectives.
  • Ensure that suitable premises, welfare facilities, PPE, equipment, plant and vehicles are maintained and tested as per the manufactures guidelines or as legislation dictates.
  • Ensure that emergency procedures, equipment and or other requirements are suitably controlled and briefed.
  • Ensure that risks and hazards associated with their operations, building and activities are identified, evaluated, controlled, reduced and formally documented and ensure that these are communicated to the relevant Interested Parties and reviewed regularly.
  • Actively review technologies, procedures and process to where possible provide practical solutions to eliminate, reduce and control hazards and risks associated with activities.
  • To actively commit to the engagement, consultation and participation of employees on matters regarding Health, Safety, Welfare and Wellbeing.
  • Encourage staff to identify and actively report close calls using our Accident Close Call Procedure contributing towards improving the Health and Safety Culture throughout the organisation.
  • Ensure that all employees have sufficient supervision, information competence, training and knowledge to carry out their tasks without compromising the safety of themselves or other Interested Parties.
  • Ensure that all contractors working on Tennals Environmental sites, or under the operational control of Tennals, comply with the Health and Safety Procedures.
  • Ensure that suitable resources are provided to ensure the implementation of this policy.
  • Review, monitor and revise policies and procedures including this policy statement regularly via audits, management meetings and legislation updates and any other means that Tennals Environmental requires in an effort to continuously improve its Health and Safety Culture and to ensure continuing suitability for our business needs and identified Interested Parties.

 

Tennals Environmental also acknowledge and recognise that safety and safe behaviours go hand in hand in reducing accidents on site and are committed and driven to improve safety culture and influence the behaviours of all our staff and anyone who works with or on behalf of Tennals.

  • We will always:
  • Make sure we actively consider Health and Safety as part of our business as usual activities;
  • Identify hazards, assess risks to see whether our control measures are adequate or need to be improved;
  • Set ourselves SMART Health and Safety Objectives and targets to push the organisation to continually improve;
  • Monitor how well we are achieving the objectives (for example, through inspection and audit) and record results;
  • Report, record and investigate all accidents and incidents to see where we can learn lessons and improve;
  • Communicate and consult with all interested parties across the business with a view to championing Health and Safety Culture;
  • Embed Safety Champions across all forms of the business with a view to promote a positive culture change;
  • To ensure that we provided suitable and practical Health and Safety training across the business;
  • Get advice from outside competent specialists whenever we need it;
  • Meet basic workplace welfare requirements, have appropriate first aid and fire precautions and Employers Liability Insurance; and
  • To promote the close call and near miss process across the business.
  • Who is responsible for what?
  • The Managing Director, has overall responsibility for Health and Safety in the Company;
  • The Health & Safety Managers must make sure Safe Systems of Work are always followed and carry out regular monitoring;
  • Every member of staff must co-operate in following safe procedures, report problems and make suggestions for improvements;
  • Our contractors and suppliers must provide us with all necessary safe information and co-operate with our Health and Safety requirements.

Quality Policy 

  • Tennals Environmental is the trading name of Challen Commercial Investigations Limited (03426833) incorporating the wholly owned subsidiary Tennals Environmental (ROI) LTD (646123) (hereby referred to as Tennals).  It is the policy ofTennals Environmental to focus on providing a quality service to its customers and clients and has adopted a policy of providing client services which have the requisite to merit total customer satisfaction.
  • Tennals Environmental sees its Quality Management System and objectives as an essential requirement for the long-term success of the business and this is supported by its highly skilled staff, products and knowledge.
  • Tennals Environmental is committed to providing a service to the client compliant with all clauses prescribed ISO9001 and also by IS017025 and ISO17020 quality standards which are directly accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB), for all appropriate testing and inspections. This does not include opinions and interpretations, unless otherwise stated.
  • The quality policy is defined and reviewed by the Directors and Senior Management, who have a responsibility to implement any necessary steps to ensure suitable resources are allocated to enable the successful operation and upkeep of the quality manual.
  • The Integrated Management System Manual clearly defines the resources, equipment and responsibilities required to undertake the activities in line with the overall scope and operation of the company. The manual also defines the procedures, which have been devised to ensure that the quality of the work carried out, the integrity of the samples taken, and the calibration and serviceability of the equipment used meets all relevant quality objectives.
  • It is the responsibility of all staff to fully understand and comply to the contents of the quality manual and related processes and procedures.  In order to achieve the policy objectives, the company organisation is structured with established levels of responsibility, authority and inter-relationships. Overall responsibility and implementation of the quality system to Tennals Environmental are a whole is assumed by the Quality & Compliance Director.

  • The constantly evolving situation in regard to COVID-19 brings a range of significant challenges to all businesses, clients and most of all our own staff.  Tennals Environmental is committed to ensuring that it undertakes everything morally and legally within its powers to protect the health and wellbeing of its staff and interested parties in these most challenging times. Tennals Environmental will continue to monitor and follow Government, NHS England, Irish Health Service Executive and WHO (World Health Organisation) advice daily as this pandemic evolves.
  • Tennals Environmental are committed to ensuring that we do everything practicable to ensure the safety of our staff and as such we have implemented the following processes:
  • All regional offices have been assessed and actions taken to ensure all areas are covid secure.
  • Tennals Environmental continue to review the covid security levels of each site by means of data collection;
  • Information is gathered from all clients in regards to COVID-19, which includes:
  • Have there been any confirmed COVID-19 cases on site in the last 14 days?
  • Have there been any suspected COVID-19 cases on site in the last 14 days?
  • Is the client aware if they have come in contact with any suspected or confirmed COVID 19 cases?
  • Does the client have any processes and procedures in place to restrict the transmission or spread of COVID-19?
  • Can social distancing measures be observed on site?
  • Regular reviews are being undertaken in line with the government’s roadmap.
  • Vulnerable individuals are being fully supported.

 

  • A range of practical measures have been implemented to protect our workforce and clients.  These include:
  • Implementing social distancing measures on any activity in accordance with Government guidance.
  • Providing suitable personal protective equipment such as gloves, RPE, overalls and goggles for all relevant staff.
  • Refraining from using any form of public transport when travelling to and from the place of work.
  • Ensuring that all the site staff have been supplied with suitable cleaning supplies such as wipes and hand sanitisers.
  • Reviewing shift patterns and office occupancy levels to reduce exposure.
  • Introducing regular testing regimes
  • Clear guidance of when to isolate and for how long.
  • Processes have been implemented to ensure that all staff have a way of raising any suspected symptoms with the relevant Tennals Environmental Line Managers.
  • Promotion of good hygiene across the organisation, including hand washing and welfare requirements.
  • Producing site specific RAMS and control measures and guidance for each site.
  • Tennals Environmental Staff are expected to adhere to and follow all site instructions, policies and procedures, particularly in respect to this virus.
